ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Welcome to Week 6 of Term 4!
2024 Chief Minister's Awards for Excellence in the Public Sector – Mini-Woolies
Henbury School was a finalist for the 2024 Chief Minister's Awards for Excellence in the Public Sector for Excellence in Cross-Government Collaboration and Partnerships for our Mini-Woolies store. Whilst we did not walk away with the win on Friday evening, it was clear that we were a crowd favourite!
I have the privilege of overseeing this program and this semester, 11 students participated. Jobs included serving, ordering and even delivering goods to classes! We are busy planning for expansion in 2025, so watch this space!
T/EAP and Progress Reports
Teachers are busy finalising student reports to celebrate their learning from across the year. We aim to have these to you by Week 10.
2025 Class allocations
The leadership team are putting the final touches on class lists for 2025 based on feedback from our transition programs. Our next step is to allocate staffing. We will share with students, families and carers 2025 placements by the end of Week 9 this term.
School Council
A reminder that if you would like to have a say in how our school operates, we encourage any new or existing parents to join our School Council. We would also like to encourage an indigenous voice for our school council as we have 56% indigenous students. You don’t need any experience to join, just a passion to provide the best for your child. The next School Council meeting will be on Wednesday 4th December.
Year 12 Graduation
If you haven’t already booked your tickets, get in fast! This is the event of the year, a chance to celebrate the incredible achievements of our Year 12 students. There are always laughs and a few tears and a delicious meal. The venue is the Hilton Hotel.
GREEN 4 WATERCOLOUR PAINTS & SCIENCE
Green 4 had a wonderful time learning science through mixing colours in their science/art class! The girls experimented with the primary colours—red, yellow, and blue—discovering what happens when they mix them together. They saw how two colours can make a new colour, like red and blue making purple, and yellow and blue making green.
It was like magic!
Through these fun experiments, they got to learn a little bit about how colours work. They also added a little salt to see what it would do to the paint. The salt absorbs water from the paint, it pulls some of the pigment toward it, creating a textured, starburst-like effect around each grain. This leaves interesting patterns and lighter spots in the paint, giving the artwork a unique, speckled appearance.
The class was filled with enthusiasm and motivation as each girl painted and mixed to see what colours they could create. The girls especially loved watching their paintings change with each new colour they added. They were thrilled with their unique creations, proud to show off their colourful artworks to the adults, especially as they created festive trees with the colours.
It was a fun, messy, and magical way to learn about colours!
They are now working on their clean-up skills.

GREEN 1 ARE KICKING GOALS IN TERM 4
Green 1 has had a wonderful Term four with many successes, wins, and fun along the way! The term started off with a bang as we won the People’s Choice Award for our artwork of ‘Where the sea meets the land’. A huge thank you to woodwork genius Vince who supported the Green 1 crew for many months creating the masterpiece!
We have also thoroughly enjoyed our buddy class fortnightly activities with Blue 1. The students have connected over their love of art and creativity. Last week, we worked together and created a beautiful display of images on the pavement. Green 1 loved forming connections with our Blue 1 buddies.
The countdown is now on as we begin to decorate our classroom for the holidays and get ready for the end of the year. Congratulations on another incredible term Green 1! We are sad to farewell our year 12, Shakira, and wish her the best of luck on her next adventure.
WORK EXPERIENCE NEWS
Site Visits
Our Year 12 students have been exploring various post-school opportunities this semester. They recently participated in site visits to Helping People Achieve, Youthworx and the Defence Assist Program. Each visit provided them with valuable insights into potential career paths for 2025.
These experiences have been valuable in helping our students make informed decisions about their futures. We are proud of their enthusiasm and engagement in exploring these opportunities.
Students Gain Valuable Work Experience in Darwin
Our students have been actively participating in work experience at various sites around Darwin. These opportunities have included placements at Paws, Fun Bus, Officeworks, Woolworths, Chemist Warehouse, Bunnings and Murraya Childcare Centre.
Work experience offers our students the chance to:
- Develop Practical Skills: By working in real-world environments, students gain hands-on experience that complements their academic learning.
- Explore Career Interests: These placements help students understand different industries and roles.
