ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

CHRISTMAS CARD COMPETITION

A Christmas Card Design Competition was held earlier this term. The calibre of designs was fantastic and it was a challenge for our NTLC students and Principal to choose the lucky winners. Eventually 12 cards were selected including a couple of collaborative designs. Congratulations to the following students –

END OF TERM ASSEMBLIES

Parents and carers are invited to our two end of term assemblies. Term Four school assembly will be held on Thursday 7 December at 11am. Our final assembly is the Graduation and Special Awards Assembly on Tuesday 12 December at 11.00am.

HALLOWEEN DISCO

On Friday 27^th October students enjoyed a very creepy but fun Halloween Disco! It was wonderful to see students come together in their costumes and dance the afternoon away.

REMEMBERANCE DAY

Thanks goes out to our NTLC students and Amanda Thomas for organising a very moving and memorable Remembrance Day Ceremony on Friday 10^th Nov. NTLC students rose to the challenge of giving heart felt speeches and performances (the national anthem and didgeridoo) and welcomed special guest Warrant Officer (E9) Jenny Dare. Students recognised the importance of the day by laying wreaths and placing poppies in the garden as a mark of respect.

We would also like to thank Roger Harvey, chair of Nackeroo and Norforce Association for gifting our school with a book, Darwin Bombed written by Dr Tom Lewis, for our library.

RUGBY TOUCH SESSIONS

During Terms 3 and 4 the Touch Football NT community engagement staff have been visiting Henbury on Thursday and Fridays to work with many of our students. Students learnt the fundamentals of the game, developed teamwork and sportsmanship, plus had loads of fun.

HENBURY PRECINCT OP SHOP AND CAFÉ

Don’t forget to support the school’s work training initiative Henbury Precinct – Café and Op Shop. The café is stocking lots of student made gifts right in time for Christmas. Open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday 8:30-1:30. The café will be closed for the school holidays – last trading day Saturday 9^th December. The Op Shop is open Tuesday – Friday 8:30 – 4pm, and Saturdays 8:30am-2pm. The Op Shop is always in need of donations so please drop off yours!

HENBURY CORPORATE LUNCHEON

Our major fundraiser, the Henbury Corporate Luncheon is approaching quickly. If you or someone you know is keen to attend please contact the office 8997 7077 ASAP to get your tickets.

MEANINGFUL MATHS

This was the second year that Nemarluk and Henbury got together in a MM confirming sessions with additional staff from Woodroffe Primary joining this year. Teachers who assess using Fuel and Launch, or GLoSS went to Nemarluk and teachers who assess using JAM shared their assessments at Henbury.

This is a great opportunity for teachers to collaborate and share assessment results to assist with consistently across both Henbury and Nemarluk.

SoSafe! PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

On 14th November four of our teachers attended SoSafe! professional development training. The SoSafe! program is a set of visual and conceptual tools that are designed to promote social safety through the provision of a simplified and rule-governed model of social reality, that teaches the type and degree of verbal and physical intimacy appropriate with different categories of people. This training links strongly to our whole school Human Growth and Development Program.

FAREWELLS

 In the last week we farewelled two of our highly valued SESOs – Leanne and Mel. Leanne worked in nearly all of our programs over her seven years at Henbury from high support classrooms, to barista training at our cafés and senior and middle years outreach classrooms. Her amazing hairdressing skills were utilised with many of our students in skillset and VET programs. We will miss Leanne as our delegated school photographer and Facebook expert. Mel came to us from Nakara Primary two and a half years ago and brought with her a breath of fresh air as she clicked straight into our fun and inclusive school culture. Her dedication to our students, awesome sense of humour, and can-do-no-worries attitude is already greatly missed. We wish Leanne and Mel the best of luck with their next adventures.

GREEN 1 ARE OUT AND ABOUT

In Green 1 this year, we have engaged in several Community Access programs across Darwin.  This allows our students to build on their understanding of essential life skills in a variety of settings. These visits included weekly shopping adventures to Coles, the Museum, local cafes, Nightcliff Jetty, and Casuarina Shopping Centre just to name a few. These experiences enable the students to learn how to navigate stores, make purchases, adopt financial literacy, and develop independence skills. This access promotes social integration and inclusivity for students within the community and enables the students to express their needs, receive sensory exposure, and help build social and safety skills.

GREEN 2

Green 2 have spent time this year discovering who they are as artists. They have explored different techniques, textures and created some amazing artworks along the way. A very small sample of our artworks were on display at the Art Exhibition earlier this term, but we thought you might like to see some of our other creations. Enjoy!

3X3 BASKETBALL

It was a busy day out at the very fast paced 3x3 Basketball comp. Students had a blast with points being scored all over the place. Aiko gets a special mention for 2-point shots taken in a row.  

It was great to see those who were new to the day play and have fun and those old hands provide leadership to their teammates.

Thank you to all the staff who came and coached, refereed, scored and supervised. From the conversations that buzzed around they all had fun, ran all day and were totally exhausted at the end.

THE BLUE 4 SUPERSTARS

This year, Blue 4 celebrated the incredible talents within our class. One of our proudest achievements is the creation of the new school values posters. These posters will be displayed throughout the school and showcased at assemblies. Our students explored the meaning behind each of the values, bringing them to life through imaginative scenarios depicted in their drawings.

Congratulations to Ayden, Mark, Vlad, and Jacky for their outstanding entries in the Christmas Card competition.

Beyond visual arts, our class has proven to be a powerhouse of acting talent. We produced a powerful message with our Bullying No Way Video, designed for use as a valuable teaching resource in Human Growth & Development. The enthusiasm and dedication of Mark, Oliver, Ayden, Jacky, Vlad, and Nick in their roles was so impressive that we decided to take it a step further and create a short film titled "Day Tripped Out." The entire class revealed their natural acting abilities, with some scenes requiring only one take. Mark's leadership, both in performing daring stunts and providing acting demonstrations, was outstanding. The movie received enthusiastic reviews when showcased at the assembly, filling our boys with pride. Blue 4 was recognised at Henbury’s Art Exhibition, taking out the People's Choice award for Middle Years.

We are delighted to welcome back Gerard after a term away, and we happily embraced a new addition to our class, Anthony.

To share the joy and creativity of Blue 4, we invite you to witness our cinematic masterpiece, "Day Tripped Out," at this year's Henbury Corporate Lunch at the Darwin Convention Centre on the 1^st December. Tickets are available for purchase through the front office.

BUS FORMS 2024

To ensure transport services are provided to your child at the start of the school year, all students requiring transport in 2024 need to complete and submit the Request for Special Needs Transport form.

The 2024 Request for Special Needs Transport package is attached.  All sections of the request are to be completed and returned to school before Friday 24 November 2023. Incomplete requests cannot be processed.

Any forms received after the 24 November 2023 may result in your application being delayed in 2024.

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM PERFORMANCE

Our Henbury senior drama presents their take on “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. There will be two performances on Wednesday 29^th and Thursday 30^th November at Henbury School. Gates open at 5:30pm. Tickets are available from the front office. Please contact Thalia or Jo on 89977077 to make a purchase.

SRA @ HENBURY SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAM

If you would like your child to be a part of the SRA holiday program please let the team know.

The program runs from the 15^th December 2023 until the 29^th January 2024. Please note there is a two week shut down from the 22^nd December until the 8^th January 2024.

Attached is the School Holiday Program and expression of interest. Please return the form by Friday 1^st December if you would like to book your child in.
